Build 18: LEGO gates

January 26, 2013

At the beginning of this last semester we put our project into Build 18 which is a week-long hacka-thon. We decided to scale down our designs from last semester to integrate with LEGO. Here are some of the results.

  1. This is so cool! You’ve miniaturized mechanical logic gates and made them LEGO compatible! That was like a dream of mine back in high school. I’m the guy from [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vXlQZvS-nM] which you mentioned as an inspiration in your proposal PDF. (I’m so flattered!) Are you guys still undergrads at CMU or have you graduated? If this project is still active, I would love to help teaching or making workshops. That was something I didn’t even think of when I was in high school, but now I see the potential it has for teaching school children or even being an interactive exhibit in science museums. Are your CAD models open source? I’d love to make some of the little gates. (They’re so cute! My K’NEX ones were so honking huge!) I go to Drexel University in Philadelphia now, and have access to laser cutters and 3D printers like you guys. Congrats on winning awards at the Build 18 and the Meeting of the Minds! If you can, friend me on Facebook or Google (http://profiles.google.com/wmhilton) and we could start a group chat. I’d love to learn more about your project and long-term ambitions for it.
